Last Pickings

Last pickings came from my walk back across the fields at the end of last summer, well actually it was well in to autumn by then, but it was still such beautiful weather.  As I walked along there was a sudden flurry of activity as I disturbed a flock of goldfinches, greenfinches and blue tits all trying to get the last few seeds from the slowly dying sunflower head.  Like most of the works in this series the painting is based on one of my daily sketches.
