The Secret Life of a Pair of Posties

An Evening to Remember

What a fab evening we had last week at the Maeldune Heritage Centre! The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as lovely friends, family, colleagues and customers gathered to celebrate the opening of our ‘A Pair of Painting Posties’ exhibition. We want to thank everyone who came, it was truly lovely to see all of you and we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. The show is a collaboration between myself and my colleague Stephen Wenlock.

Contrast in Styles

Paintings from exhibition

I was so pleased with the way our work looked when it was finally hung. Stephen and I have very differing styles, which makes for a lovely contrast between our work. For me it serves as a tribute to all the wonderful customers I’ve had the pleasure of meeting during my 16 years as a Postie in Heybridge and Maldon. It’s a snippet of some of the beauty I find within my daily walks. I was thrilled that people enjoyed and recognised places from their locality. Stephen’s stunning work is meticulously detailed using acrylics. He paints scenes and characters from well known stories or events. You will come across Alice in Wonderland, local hero Brythnoth battling a viking warrior, scenes of fighter planes and much more.

Gratitude and Appreciation

Candy and Dawn serving drinks at exhibition

Special thanks go to the two lovelies Dawn and Candy, for being such fabulous servers, your infectious energy and warm hospitality added an extra sparkle to the event. We’d also like to express our gratitude to Joye Colbeck the centre manager, for her calm support throughout the preparations and on the evening and of course the centre volunteers, who do a really wonderful job of welcoming people. A big shoutout to Jill Hipsey, Chairman of the Trustees, for her invaluable time and assistance during the setup. Also a special mention to my lovely brother Alan, who at the drop of a hat, provided much-needed screwdrivers, lifts, and general strength. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Appreciating Our Visitors

People at exhibition preview evening

We were delighted to have Maldon’s mayor, Andrew Lay, grace us with his presence and past mayor, Stephen Savage also stopped by. It truly was a pleasure to see familiar faces and meet new people at the exhibition. We appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to join us and make the event a memorable one. The same can be said for anyone who has visited since and please do let us know what you think in the comments below. A Pair Painting Posties exhibition will be running until April 16th, so if you haven’t had a chance to visit yet, we highly recommend popping along. The Maeldune Heritage Centre is a lovely venue with a wide range of arts and crafts for sale. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the amazing Maldon Embroidery, which is definitely worth a look.
